Covid Blues is an unaccompanied duet written in swing style for French
Horn and Trombone. The piece begins with a slow conversation between
two instruments. It starts with them taking turns, but the intensity ramps up
with the instruments talking over each other leading into the main body of
the piece.
The first section in written in the 12-bar blues tradition with the instruments
trading off the lead and accompaniment. Then the instruments trade solos
with a brief interlude between each solo. After the solos, there is rubato
section where the instrument trade mournful calls and responses eventually
leading back into beginning blues section, this time with added energy. The
piece concludes with a brief coda.
